Scale Introduction
Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) free online test. Developed by Brink et al. (1982), GDS is a specialized depression screening tool for elderly populations. It demonstrates higher concordance rates in clinical assessments of older adults compared to other depression scales, with this advantage being more pronounced in advanced age groups. Since elderly individuals frequently report somatic complaints (e.g., decreased appetite, sleep disturbances) that may fall within normal aging parameters, general depression scales might lead to misdiagnosis. This scale is primarily applicable to individuals aged 56+.
Note: As the scale serves only as an auxiliary screening tool, test results should be interpreted as reference only.
| Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 0-10 | No depression |
| 11-20 | Mild depression |
| 21-30 | Moderate to severe depression |
