Scale Introduction
Free online test for Bipolar Disorder - Bipolar Spectrum Questionnaire (BSQ). BSQ is primarily used to screen for bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness) and consists of 12 items. For bipolar disorder screening, in addition to using specialized bipolar disorder scales, it can also be combined with mania screening scales and depression screening scales. If both manic and depressive symptoms are present, the possibility of bipolar disorder should be considered.
Note: As this scale is only an auxiliary screening tool, the test results are for reference only.
| Score | Reference Result |
|---|---|
| 0~6 | No bipolar disorder |
| 7~15 | Possible unipolar depression |
| 16~24 | Some degree of depression or mild bipolar disorder |

Introduction to Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder (BD), also known as manic-depressive illness, is a mood disorder characterized by episodes of mania or hypomania alternating with episodes of depression.
It is called bipolar disorder because patients' moods swing between the "highs" of mania and the "lows" of depression.
These are not simple mood swings - patients don't have an emotional switch they can control. Typically, bipolar patients cannot predict their next emotional state.
According to data: Bipolar disorder ranks 17th among all diseases worldwide and is one of the leading causes of disability. Its most typical clinical manifestations are manic episodes and depressive episodes.
The onset age of bipolar disorder peaks twice - before age 19 and around age 40, with adolescents being the most affected group. It features high recurrence rates, high disability rates, and high mortality rates, with suicide risk about 100 times that of the general population.
Nearly 40% of bipolar patients are often misdiagnosed with depression. Long-term antidepressant treatment can easily induce rapid cycling of manic episodes, thereby worsening the condition.
