Scale Introduction
Free online Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) test. Developed by Overall and Gorham in 1962, BPRS is one of the most widely used rating scales in psychiatry, primarily designed to assess the severity of psychotic symptoms. The scale is applicable to most patients with severe mental illnesses exhibiting psychotic symptoms, particularly suitable for schizophrenia patients.
Since patients with psychotic symptoms often have varying degrees of impaired insight, the evaluation of psychotic symptoms mainly relies on observer-rated methods. This scale is an observer-rated instrument that typically requires administration by professionals through patient interviews, with professionals then selecting the appropriate rating options. Users may refer to it for information, but self-assessment is generally not recommended.
