Introduction
Burns Depression Checklist (BDC) - Free online depression screening test. Developed by Dr. David D. Burns, a leading cognitive therapy expert from the University of Pennsylvania, this self-assessment tool helps quickly identify potential depression and its severity level.
Note: This scale is typically suitable for adults aged 18+. Adolescents' emotions, cognition and expression differ significantly from adults, so we recommend using depression scales specifically designed for teens like the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI).
BDC Scoring Interpretation
The test contains 25 questions: Questions 1-10 assess "thoughts and feelings", 11-17 evaluate "activities and relationships", 18-22 examine "physical symptoms", and the last 3 questions screen for "suicidal tendencies".
Each question scores 0-4 points, resulting in a total score range of 0-100.
Scores consistently above 25 may indicate need for professional treatment. If suicidal tendencies are present, immediate consultation with mental health professionals is essential.
